Job description
The CoreOS Kernel team at Apple is seeking an OS kernel performance engineer to enhance performance on Apple Silicon platforms, including iOS, macOS, and visionOS. This role focuses on low-level programming and performance optimization, aiming to improve end-user experience across Apple's products. The engineer will work closely with hardware architects and chip design teams to optimize kernel and runtime design. This position offers the opportunity to influence the next generation of CPU, GPU, and memory subsystems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- Proficiency in C programming language
- Strong understanding of OS fundamentals
- Experience with kernel development and low-level performance analysis
- Knowledge of modern CPU and memory architectures
- Expertise with profiling tools and analysis such as Instruments and VTune
Responsibilities
- Analyze and optimize OS performance for responsiveness and efficiency on upcoming platforms
- Drive innovative kernel and runtime design optimizations that improve scheduling, memory, and power efficiency
- Collaborate with hardware architects and chip design teams to drive optimizations for Apple Silicon
- Engage with multiple teams, including hardware engineering and compiler teams, to enhance system performance
