Job description

The Lead Product Design Architect at Google will be part of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team focused on designing and delivering innovative consumer products, particularly within the Pixel team. This role involves leveraging creativity and engineering expertise to solve complex problems and integrate new technologies for future Pixel products. The architect will collaborate with industrial designers and product managers to define new products and technologies, ensuring a seamless transition from design to market. The position emphasizes technical knowledge across various disciplines, including mechanical components and system integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.
  • 12 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, a related field, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
  • 15 years of work experience in consumer product design is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and validate new technologies while collaborating with design and product teams on early product definitions.
  • Prototype designs and navigate cross-disciplinary engineering trade-offs involving components like batteries, antennas, and sensors.
  • Collaborate with peer product architecture leads to stage technology development across multiple years of future products.
  • Sell the product goal, build consensus with organizational leadership, and generate excitement for solving complex technical problems.
  • Partner with global New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering to smoothly transition new product architectures to market.
