The Senior Software Engineer - Backend role at IBM focuses on building and managing the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. The Traffic team is responsible for developing core platform services that enhance platform velocity, resiliency, and efficiency. This position requires a strong interest in large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native environments. The engineer will work collaboratively with various teams to design, implement, and improve backend services.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 2-5 years of experience building distributed, highly available backend systems in production.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating large-scale services with clear API contracts.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Go, Java, or C++.
• Experience with public cloud and Kubernetes/containerized environments.

• Design, build, and operate backend services that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
• Own features and projects end to end, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and ongoing improvements.
• Work with distributed systems and microservices, focusing on performance and resiliency.
• Contribute to service reliability and operations, including monitoring and alerting.
• Collaborate with partner teams on architecture, data modeling, and integration points.
