Job description

As a Silicon Photonics Component Design Engineer at Intel Foundry, you will be part of a team focused on advancing optical interconnect technologies. Your work will involve the development and optimization of silicon photonic components for high-speed communication systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance Intel's silicon photonics technology roadmap. This role emphasizes innovation in photonic device design and testing, contributing to the future of optical networking.

Requirements

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline with 2+ years of experience in silicon photonic device design, simulation, characterization, or related research environments, or a Master's degree in a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in high-speed photonic devices, including optical modulators and photodetectors.
  • Proficiency in photonic design and simulation using tools such as Sentaurus, Silvaco, Lumerical, HFSS, ADS, RSoft, or equivalent.
  • Experience with photonic device testing and characterization, and data analysis using MATLAB, Python, JMP, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with photonic layout design using Cadence, KLayout, or comparable design environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and support the development of photonic components, including lasers, modulators, and high-speed photodetectors.
  • Perform simulations, tolerance studies, and design evaluations to improve device performance and manufacturability.
  • Support test chip execution activities, including design implementation and silicon validation.
  • Analyze characterization and test data to identify performance trends and opportunities for design enhancement.
  • Contribute to photonic device models, simulation workflows, and automation tools.
