Job description
The Packaging Design Engineer will be part of the Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team at Google, focusing on designing and evaluating packaging systems for data center hardware. This role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure that packaging meets product requirements and sustainability standards. The engineer will also be responsible for conducting transit and reliability testing to ensure compliance with industry standards. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and project management skills to support Google's growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in packaging design for hardware or consumer goods.
- Experience with ISTA (e.g., 2A, 3A) and ASTM D4169 protocols.
- Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as Creo, NX, or Solidworks.
Responsibilities
- Develop specifications, 3D CAD models, and 2D technical drawings for packaging systems and components.
- Identify and qualify sustainable, protective materials, and isolation components.
- Plan and execute transit/reliability testing in compliance with ISTA/ASTM standards.
- Collaborate with suppliers to optimize tooling, tolerances, and assembly throughput.
- Coordinate packaging design with Product, Manufacturing, Quality, and Logistics teams.
