Job description
The mid-career mechanical design engineer will focus on sustaining programs for RAPID, ensuring the success of legacy systems still in high volume manufacturing. This role involves supporting the design, fabrication, and performance characterization of various mechanical systems. The engineer will build technical relationships with vendors and will have the opportunity to learn and eventually own the design process. The position requires collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and new product introduction teams in a dynamic environment.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree with no related work experience, Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience.
- Proficiency in 3D solid modeling CAD, preferably ProE/Creo.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with mechanical manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
Responsibilities
- Sustain the design and performance of opto-mechanical modules and precision mechanical mechanisms.
- Develop innovative designs involving precision mechanisms and Ultra High Vacuum systems.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, finite element analysis, and thermal analysis.
- Build and maintain vendor relationships for component fabrication and manufacturing process transfer.
- Take projects from design concept through manufacturing build and address issues throughout product phases.
