Job description

Apple's AI & Data Platform (AiDP) Data Services organization is looking for a database systems engineer to join their Data Services SRE team. This team focuses on managing a transactional database fleet that supports critical internet services at scale. The role involves developing platform tooling for relational and distributed-SQL/document engines, ensuring data integrity during migrations, and collaborating with various teams. The work will have a significant impact on hundreds of millions of users.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in a Site Reliability Engineering or Infrastructure focused role.
  • Hands-on production experience with at least one of Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Good understanding of one or more programming languages such as Python or Go.
  • Some operational experience with stateful services on Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with observability concepts, backup, and disaster recovery practices for OLTP/distributed-SQL engines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and contribute to platform tooling that manages relational and distributed-SQL/document engines.
  • Support data migration efforts across hybrid-cloud environments with minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with Core Storage teams and colleagues across a distributed team.
  • Ensure adherence to local data residency and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize automation tooling for running infrastructure across Datacenter and Cloud architectures.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
