The Energy Tech organization is focused on developing systems that manage the energy flow of Apple devices to enhance user experience. The team is tasked with creating end-to-end solutions that utilize on-device machine learning and control. The role of the Machine Learning Engineer involves analyzing field data, prototyping control algorithms, and implementing them on-device. The challenges include dealing with noisy sensors and competing objectives while ensuring solutions are simple enough for constrained hardware.

• MS or PhD in controls, robotics, electrical engineering, computer science, or other quantitative field, or BS with relevant experience
• Experience with model predictive control, optimal control, or reinforcement learning
• Experience working from raw logs or sensor data and building analysis from scratch
• Strong Python skills with the ability to take a project from data exploration to working prototype
• Experience with thermal systems, battery management, or energy optimization
• Familiarity with embedded or resource-constrained environments
• Hands-on machine learning experience, including training models and evaluating tradeoffs
• Ability to work with ambiguity and drive projects without detailed specifications
• Track record of shipping models or control systems into production
