Job description

The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop mechanical systems for a robotic platform at Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company. This hands-on role involves working closely with electrical engineers and industrial designers to create compact and serviceable assemblies. The focus is on rapid prototyping and integrating electronics, sensors, and cables into the design. The team aims to make robotics more accessible and enjoyable to build.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably Onshape
  • Experience designing parts for rapid prototyping using 3D printing and CNC machining
  • Strong 2D drawing skills with knowledge of GD&T
  • Experience with mechanical packaging of electronics, including PCB mounting and cable routing
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis and fit/function verification
  • Experience with DFM for injection molded parts
  • Experience designing sensor mounts or integration hardware for perception sensors
  • Thermal management experience, including heatsink design and airflow analysis
  • Familiarity with additional manufacturing processes such as die casting and sheet metal
  • Exposure to structural simulation or FEA for part validation
  • Experience working across EVT/DVT build cycles in product development
  • Background in robotics, consumer electronics, or compact electromechanical product development

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design of peripheral systems and accessories for the robotic platform from concept through prototype validation.
  • Design and maintain complex assemblies in Onshape with clean parametric architecture.
  • Solve packaging and integration problems for electronics, sensors, connectors, and cables.
  • Develop cable routing and harness packaging solutions within tight volume constraints.
  • Drive rapid prototyping cycles using 3D printing, CNC machining, and other methods.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers on component placement and thermal paths.
  • Work with industrial designers to resolve form, fit, and manufacturability tradeoffs.
  • Perform tolerance analysis and manage fit/function across multi-part assemblies.
  • Manage prototyping vendor relationships and support DFM reviews.
  • Maintain design documentation and participate in design reviews across the team.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
