Job description

Apple's Debug Technologies team in San Diego is seeking software and firmware engineers with operating systems experience. The team focuses on developing in-system debugging and failure observability solutions for Apple platforms. Engineers will work hands-on across the Core OS stack to enhance debugging and diagnostics. This role involves defining future system architectures with a focus on observability and diagnosability.

Requirements

  • 3+ years working on operating system level features or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of operating systems fundamentals
  • Experience developing or debugging on embedded systems
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or Swift programming
  • Experience working with GenAI
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience/skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and constraints as a self-starter

Responsibilities

  • Develop silicon- and system-level features for faster and more precise debugging and diagnostics.
  • Build and improve low-level debugging tools.
  • Strengthen the infrastructure that supports system-level debugging at scale.
  • Work on projects from pre-silicon simulation to systems already in customers' hands.
  • Help define future system architectures with a focus on observability and diagnosability.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
