Job description
The Software Development Engineer II role at AWS involves owning the design and delivery of core components for in-house network software, including controllers and planning software. The MONA team is responsible for managing a vast network and the lifecycle of over one million physical devices. This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems while mentoring junior engineers and improving operational standards. Candidates do not need a networking background, as the team supports growth and development in this area.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 3+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications
- 3+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture of new and existing systems experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- 3+ years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design experience
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience
- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent is preferred
- Experience with server, storage, networking, or large-scale distributed systems
- Experience building production software applications or understanding software development and systems architecture
Responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation, and operation of components and features of in-house network software end-to-end.
- Turn ambiguous requirements into high-quality, well-tested, scalable code.
- Operate services in production and uphold high operational standards.
- Drive correctness and safety for automation that acts on production networks.
- Collaborate with team and partner teams to evolve the product and improve code quality.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team through code reviews.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for the services owned.
