Job description

The Sr. Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) role at Databricks focuses on collaborating with customers to address their data and AI challenges using the Databricks platform. This hands-on, customer-facing position requires a blend of engineering expertise and business impact awareness. FDEs are responsible for leading architecture and design decisions, ensuring solutions are effective and aligned with customer needs. The role also involves working cross-functionally to deliver impactful technical projects and guide customers through their implementation journeys.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms & analytics, or software engineering.
  • Proficiency in coding with Python, Scala, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frameworks.
  • Experience with two or more common Cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP) with expertise in at least one.
  • Deep experience with distributed computing using Apache Spark and knowledge of Spark runtime internals.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD for production deployments.
  • Working knowledge of MLOps, ML/AI models, and AI APIs.
  • Experience in designing and deploying performant production end-to-end data architectures and applications.
  • Experience with technical project delivery, managing scope, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong documentation and white-boarding skills.
  • Experience working with enterprise clients and managing conflicts across a broad stakeholder range.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to explore new technologies.
  • Willingness to travel to customers 20% of the time.
  • Databricks Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead impactful customer technical projects by delivering production-grade systems and designing reference architectures.
  • Guide strategic customers in implementing transformational big data projects, including end-to-end design and deployment.
  • Advise customers on architecture and design, ensuring successful understanding and adoption of Databricks.
  • Lead architecture and design decisions to ensure secure and scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Databricks technical team and customer teams to meet engagement needs.
  • Work with Engineering and Customer Support to provide feedback and resolve product issues.
  • Engage with customer stakeholders to deeply understand challenges and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Contribute to reusable assets, frameworks, and best practices that scale impact across accounts.
