Job description
The role at Rivian focuses on developing testing processes and designing test equipment for prototype and production lines, specifically for stators, IPM motors, inverters, and drive units. The position is integral to supporting Rivian's mission of creating emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles. Located in either Plymouth, MI or East Atlanta, GA, the role involves collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure testing requirements are met. The successful candidate will lead the development of testing technologies and participate in design reviews to enhance manufacturability and testing principles.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in functional testing processes and capital equipment procurement.
- Experience with automotive and electric motor and inverter systems is preferred.
- Understanding of inverter electronics as it pertains to main functions and testing.
- Experience with programming, embedded controllers, and communication networks such as CAN and Automotive Ethernet.
- Hands-on experience in low and high voltage instrumentation and calibration procedures.
- Geometric and dimensional tolerancing experience is desirable.
- Experience in low and high-volume production.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong initiative and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Willingness to travel for extended periods, both domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of comprehensive functional testing strategies for drive units and their components.
- Identify and develop required in-process testing to mitigate process risks.
- Collaborate with design engineering to ensure testing requirements meet customer and regulatory needs.
- Perform test data analysis to identify trends and establish long-term predictive strategies.
- Lead the development of testing technologies for product testing and advanced engineering.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure designs follow principles of manufacturability and test.
- Implement and create smart, flexible testing systems and support test equipment purchases.
- Maintain standard manufacturing and quality documentation for core processes.
- Ensure manufacturing systems meet high volume rate, cost, and quality targets.
- Identify tooling and hardware requirements and implement them into production processes.
- Identify automation opportunities and evaluate return on investment.
- Support program launch activities as required.
- Lead technical validation and deployment strategy for complex test environments.
