As a software engineer on the Runtime team at Databricks, you will focus on building the next generation distributed data storage and processing systems. This role involves developing highly technical products that enhance data and AI technology while ensuring resilience, security, and scalability. You will work on projects that include Apache Spark™, Delta Lake, and performance engineering, contributing to solutions that meet real-world data engineering needs. The team is dedicated to delivering customer value and impact through innovative software solutions.

• BS in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Optional: MS or PhD in databases or distributed systems.
• 8+ years of production level experience in either Java, Scala or C++.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
• Experience with distributed systems, databases, and big data systems such as Apache Spark™ and Hadoop.

• Build distributed data storage and processing systems that outperform specialized SQL query engines.
• Develop reliable and high performance services for storing and accessing large amounts of data.
• Contribute to the development of a storage management system that combines the benefits of data lakes and data warehouses.
• Work on optimizing query performance and execution engines.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to push the boundaries of data and AI technology.
