Job description
The Staff Engineer at GEICO is an experienced full stack engineer responsible for driving the transformation of the insurance business through innovative system design and development. This role focuses on building high-performance platforms while fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in open-source database platforms and lead the execution of a technical roadmap.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in software development and platform architecture.
- 4+ years of experience in open-source frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience with architecture and design.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or hybrid data centers.
- Deep hands-on experience in complex system design and data pipeline architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of at least one OOP language such as Java, .NET, Go, Python, or C++.
- Experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical and thought leadership to the enterprise.
- Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams.
- Develop and execute technical software development strategy for the Platform Engineering domain.
- Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions.
- Mentor and coach the engineering and product community.
- Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
- Analyze costs and forecast, incorporating them into business plans.
- Support resource requirements and evaluate operational processes.
- Take on-call and operation support as needed.
