The Senior Staff Engineer, Applied AI at GEICO is a self-directed, senior individual contributor role focused on providing technical architecture and leadership for complex AI initiatives. This position requires deep technical expertise and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries. The role involves mentoring mid-level engineers and driving the adoption of best practices in AI/ML engineering. The engineer will work closely with various teams to design and implement scalable AI-powered solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.

• 8 or more years of professional software engineering or applied machine learning experience.
• 2 or more years working with Generative AI or LLM-based systems in production.
• Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex AI/ML capabilities.
• Deep hands-on expertise with Python and modern AI frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience building and deploying production RAG systems.
• Strong understanding of agent architectures and workflow orchestration.
• Proven ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.
• Track record of mentoring engineers at various levels.

• Specify architectures and system decompositions for AI/ML capabilities.
• Provide technical architecture and leadership for complex AI initiatives.
• Architect and lead implementation of advanced Generative AI solutions.
• Design and implement sophisticated agentic workflows to automate complex processes.
• Identify and scope opportunities for automating business processes using AI.
• Serve as principal contributor for design patterns and architectural standards.
• Establish and drive adoption of engineering best practices for AI/ML systems.
• Partner with various stakeholders to co-create scalable AI solutions.
• Actively mentor and sponsor mid-level engineers in their development.
