Job description

The Engineer II position at GEICO is focused on building high-performance, low maintenance, and zero-downtime platforms and applications. This role is integral to the engineering team, which aims to provide a frictionless experience for customers while maintaining high standards of protection and availability. The ideal candidate will possess broad technical knowledge and will work in a fast-paced environment that emphasizes innovation and continuous improvement. The position involves collaboration across the organization to drive the transformation of the insurance business into a tech-focused organization.

Requirements

  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as C#, GO, Java, or C++ including object-oriented design.
  • Proven understanding of microservices oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs.
  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems.
  • Understanding of HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, and JSON.
  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with GIT and the overall GIT lifestyle.
  • Understanding of existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal.
  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Practical knowledge working in an Agile environment.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
  • Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization.
  • Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective.
  • Utilize programming languages like C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases.
  • Execute software delivery utilizing an Agile methodology, continuous delivery, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Build product definitions and leverage technical skills to determine solutions.
  • Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
