Job description
GEICO is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and scaling of the Substantiation Platform, which validates and reconciles financial data across enterprise sources. The role involves collaboration with Finance, Compliance, and Product teams to ensure reliable reconciliation services and clear data lineage. The engineer will drive modernization initiatives and mentor other engineers while influencing leadership through effective communication. This position is essential for enhancing the company's financial controls and compliance efforts.
Requirements
- Fluency and specialization with at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, or Go.
- Experience with Microservices, SOA, REST, and gRPC or comparable APIs.
- Strong SQL and relational design skills at scale.
- Proven architecture and design experience for distributed, data-heavy systems.
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners.
- 10+ years of software development experience with staff or principal-level impact.
- 8+ years of experience leading architecture and large initiatives.
- 6+ years of experience with cloud-native or distributed systems in production.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical and architectural leadership for substantiation and reconciliation services.
- Build scalable, secure, and highly available software for financial controls.
- Drive modernization initiatives away from legacy reconciliation systems.
- Own solutions end-to-end, from design through production, ensuring quality and reliability.
- Align with Product, Finance, Compliance, and Treasury on requirements and operational outcomes.
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning.
