Job description

NVIDIA is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead the development of reinforcement learning (RL) frameworks and infrastructure. This role involves setting strategic direction, building a high-performing team, and ensuring the integration of various systems for AI research and model building. The manager will focus on enhancing the quality and user value of RL frameworks while collaborating with multiple teams and external partners. The position requires strong technical leadership and the ability to drive engineering efforts across organizational boundaries.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience in distributed systems, AI frameworks, ML infrastructure, high-performance computing, or systems software
  • 4+ years of experience as an engineering manager for software teams
  • Strong technical background in distributed AI systems and the ability to evaluate architecture and performance claims
  • Experience defining domain-level technical strategy and creating multi-team execution plans
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and communicate tradeoffs clearly to senior leaders
  • Experience hiring and leading engineering teams and developing technical leaders
  • Experience establishing workflows, success criteria, and metrics that improve engineering execution
  • Background collaborating with open-source communities, research teams, and customer-facing teams

Responsibilities

  • Own NVIDIA's RL post-training frameworks strategy and prioritize based on customer impact and technical feasibility
  • Evaluate architecture and performance claims across training, inference, rollout, orchestration, and the NVIDIA platform
  • Help teams converge on integrations that improve RL framework quality and user value
  • Turn technical and partner questions into measurable action and set delivery goals
  • Build and develop a team of managers and senior individual contributors
  • Create an effective operating model for US/APAC and review capacity against commitments
  • Coach engineers to contribute credibly in open-source ecosystems and uphold NVIDIA's priorities
  • Ensure validated and valuable work while making durable open-source improvements

Benefits

  • Employees at NVIDIA are often offered comprehensive, day-one benefits—including medical, dental, and vision coverage with HSA support, life and disability insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, and a 401(k) with auto-enrollment. Many roles also have generous time off and holidays, donation matching (up to $10,000), and a wide menu of extras like FSAs, commuter benefits, legal and identity-theft protection, pet insurance, and wellness discounts. Optional programs can include student-loan and home-purchase support, plus family care resources and expert medical services.
