Job description

The Lead Site Reliability Engineer position at Morgan Stanley is focused on ensuring the operational reliability of deployed software within the Wealth Management Investment Management application platforms. This role involves overseeing production environments, driving reliability engineering practices, and collaborating with various technical teams to optimize performance. The Reliability Operations team is dedicated to providing excellent user support and maintaining system stability. Candidates should possess a strong technical background and leadership skills to manage production incidents and improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in a production environment with a solid software development background.
  • BS/MS or equivalent, preferably in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading a small to medium team with a similar skill set.
  • 5+ years of experience in driving SRE principles and Chaos Engineering.
  • Strong experience in scripting languages such as Shell scripting, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure Cloud technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Autosys or other batch scheduling software.
  • Strong database skills with DB2, Sybase, or Oracle.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills specific to technical discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Reliability Engineering Practices by championing SRE principles and defining reliability metrics.
  • Provide leadership for the proactive detection, triage, and resolution of production issues.
  • Serve as the primary owner for escalated production incidents, coordinating resolution efforts.
  • Establish a culture of operational excellence focused on stability and continuous service improvement.
  • Assess the operational impact of technology changes and ensure appropriate testing and monitoring.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate manual effort through automation and self-healing capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive knowledge management framework for operational procedures.
  • Act as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor for reliability and production support strategies.
