The principal engineer on the Web Platform Privacy team at Microsoft will focus on defining privacy and identity on the modern web. This role involves building foundational technologies that enhance user privacy, security, and trust across Microsoft Edge and Chromium. The engineer will collaborate with standards bodies and other browser vendors to drive web standards and deliver interoperable implementations. The position requires a strong understanding of browser architecture and a commitment to improving user experiences while addressing complex privacy challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Experience contributing to large-scale software engineering projects.
  • Experience with web privacy, security, or identity technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical direction and drive high-quality API design for privacy and identity capabilities across Microsoft and the broader web ecosystem.
  • Deliver web platform innovations across privacy and identity, such as tracking prevention and federated identity.
  • Contribute directly to Chromium in areas that can be shared across Chromium-based browsers.
  • Partner with standards bodies, community groups, browser vendors, and internal teams to advance a privacy-respecting web.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, raising the bar for engineering quality and design.

Benefits

  • Employees at Microsoft are often offered comprehensive, “world-class” benefits—including health and mental-wellness programs, competitive pay with bonuses and stock awards, and retirement/savings options. Time-off and flexibility are common, with generous vacation and holidays, parental and caregiver leave, and flexible work schedules, alongside learning support, employee resource groups, product discounts, and matching-gifts/volunteering programs. Specific benefits can vary by region.
