Job description
This role is a founding-team opportunity focused on architecting media management infrastructure for Apple's iOS and macOS platforms. The engineer will own the end-to-end architecture for cloud syncing and media management features, writing performant Swift code. Collaboration with designers, QA engineers, and cross-functional teams is essential to influence product direction. The position emphasizes mentorship and raising the technical bar for fellow engineers.
Requirements
- 3+ years shipping production code on Apple platforms (iOS and/or macOS) with a track record of reliability and scale.
- Advanced Swift proficiency demonstrated through shipped frameworks, performance-critical systems, or large codebases.
- Deep expertise in cloud syncing architectures and media management technologies applied to real consumer or professional products.
- Proven technical lead experience owning scoping, cross-team coordination, and stakeholder communication on multi-quarter features.
- Strong command of concurrency patterns and multi-threaded programming with measurable outcomes in correctness and throughput.
- Solid computer science foundations in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design applied at production scale.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience building and shipping CloudKit-backed features, including sync conflict resolution.
- Experience designing and maintaining developer-facing APIs or reusable frameworks adopted across multiple teams or products.
- Experience building media encoding, decoding, or playback systems using AVFoundation or AVKit in shipping applications.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving systemic performance bottlenecks across memory, I/O, networking, or database layers with measurable before/after impact.
- Experience with relational data layers (SQLite, Core Data, or PostgreSQL) in the context of media metadata or large-scale asset management.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture for cloud syncing and media management features.
- Write performant, multi-threaded Swift code that ships to a massive install base.
- Collaborate with HI designers, QA engineers, and cross-functional teams.
- Bridge deep technical judgment with clear communication to influence product direction.
- Mentor and raise the technical bar for engineers through architectural leadership.
- Compound expertise in CloudKit, AVKit, and on-device storage.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
