Job description
The Staff Software Engineer for Android Infrastructure at Google Home will lead efforts to enhance system infrastructure and manage complex reliability issues. This role is critical in driving the architectural migration to a unified Google Home Platform, focusing on improving application performance and user satisfaction. The engineer will work within the App Surfaces team, which is responsible for user interactions across various devices in the Google Home ecosystem. The position requires a blend of technical leadership and hands-on development to accelerate feature development and eradicate bugs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 5 years of experience testing and launching software products with a focus on android systems or android architecture.
- 5 years of experience with full stack development, including back-end languages such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ and front-end technologies like JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
Responsibilities
- Drive the pivot towards treating application and mobile as infrastructure and quality as a platform to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Lead dedicated engineering teams to eliminate crashes, improve state-sync latency, and resolve functional issues.
- Own system health by monitoring and improving application performance metrics such as latency and crash rates.
- Guide the architectural migration to the Google Home Platform and lead the deprecation of legacy systems.
- Oversee the deployment pipeline and shift the organization towards an automated infrastructure delivery model.
