Job description
The Software Engineering Manager for Kernel Development at Google will lead a team of systems software engineers focused on optimizing the Linux Kernel for massive-scale compute and storage infrastructure. This role involves driving technical architecture and execution roadmaps for core subsystems, such as memory management and CPU scheduling. The manager will also advocate for engineering excellence and collaborate with cross-functional partners to align on critical milestones. This position plays a key role in enhancing the foundational software that powers both public Google Cloud and internal infrastructure.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
- Experience in people management, including guiding technical teams and mentoring.
- Experience in computer architecture and low-level system software development in C.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of systems software engineers.
- Drive the architectural design, implementation, and optimization of core Linux kernel components.
- Partner with other Tech Leads and cross-functional partners to align execution roadmaps.
- Advocate engineering excellence and robust testing methodologies.
- Work closely with platform infrastructure and Google Cloud leadership to launch new platform features.
