Job description
The role involves defining, designing, and developing photonic integrated circuits for advanced silicon photonics platforms aimed at high-speed optical interconnect and DWDM transceiver applications. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, utilizing AI-driven automation for simulation and layout generation. This position requires hands-on experience with photonic device design and a strong understanding of optical link budgets. The engineer will also be responsible for validating designs through post-fabrication characterization in the lab.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related field with 5+ years of PIC design experience, or a Master's degree with 3+ years of experience, or a PhD with 1+ year of experience.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Lumerical tools and any layout editor or viewer.
- Hands-on design experience with silicon-photonics foundry PDKs.
- System-level understanding of optical link budgets and DWDM channel plans.
Responsibilities
- Design active and passive photonic devices from specification through tape-out using foundry PDKs.
- Perform 3D photonic simulations to validate device performance and iterate to meet target specifications.
- Develop and maintain script-based workflows to automate parameter sweeps and data processing.
- Collaborate with other designers to run co-simulations and validate electro-optical performance.
- Execute and interpret post-fabrication characterization lab testing.
- Maintain internal technical documentation including design specs and characterization reports.
Benefits
- Qualcomm offers competitive compensation, annual bonuses, stock programs, comprehensive healthcare coverage, retirement plans, wellness programs, parental leave, flexible work options, and professional development opportunities.
