Job description
The Joining Engineering role at Rivian is essential for ensuring high-quality welding technologies and processes. This position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve current processes and implement new technologies. The role is based in Normal, IL, and reports to the Manager of Joining Engineering. The successful candidate will focus on optimizing manufacturing processes and driving continuous improvement activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Weld Engineering or equivalent work experience
- 3-5 years of experience working in a Manufacturing environment, preferably in Automotive
- 1-3+ years of experience in an automotive environment, supporting joining processes
- Strong process skills and comprehension of various joining technologies on Ferrous and Non-Ferrous sheet metal
- Experience with robotic welding and joining
- Understanding of weld assembly tooling
- Exceptional organization and data management skills
- High level proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
- Experience with GD&T and 2D & 3D modeling
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional teams
- Ability to stand for 8-12 hours per day and perform physical tasks
- Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the manufacturing engineering group in equipment design, buyoff, and installation for new model launch activities
- Assist in cell layout, rack design, and PFMEA development
- Coach safety, quality, and production on standardized work development
- Lead continuous improvement activities and drive problem resolution with cross-functional groups
- Optimize manufacturing processes to maximize productivity while reducing quality and maintenance issues
- Assist in successful runoff of equipment and ensure product and process meet plant KPIs for mass production
- Work closely with operations to mitigate production downtime and increase process efficiencies
