Job description

The Sr Automation Controls Engineer at Rivian will be a key player in the Equipment Engineering team, focusing on controls for production lines in Normal, IL. This role involves troubleshooting production issues, training technicians, and leading continuous improvement projects. The engineer will work closely with internal teams to ensure compliance with Rivian's specifications for new equipment. The position requires a blend of technical expertise in robotics and a passion for enhancing manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in robotics for industrial automation.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical repair, computer programming, and electric circuit design.
  • Experience with typical robotics applications such as joining, material handling, and bolting.
  • Familiarity with Machine Vision Systems like Keyence and Mech Mind.
  • Experience with Robot Offline programming and commissioning from scratch.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards such as ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting industrial 6-axis robots like Fanuc and ABB.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in controls equipment buy-offs at vendor sites and Rivian’s factory.
  • Develop controls standards and specifications based on lessons learned from projects.
  • Continuously improve production lines by reducing cycle time and downtime.
  • Create new programs for process changes in existing production lines.
  • Maintain and version control equipment programs and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and enhance robot features for user-friendliness.
  • Implement and validate robot safety measures.
  • Train production and maintenance teams on equipment usage and troubleshooting.
