Job description

The Solutions Engineer role at Amazon's Reliability, Maintenance, and Engineering (RME) team focuses on enhancing equipment reliability and operational performance. This position involves working with various material handling equipment (MHE) such as conveyors and sortation systems. The role requires frequent travel and collaboration with operations, engineering, and IT teams to address business needs. The engineer will also be responsible for developing software solutions and providing technical support.

Requirements

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
  • Experience in automation or complex MHE environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
  • Knowledge of six Sigma/Lean processes.
  • Expertise with Studio5000, Ignition, Codesys, and related controls software environments.
  • Ability to analyze throughput data and system performance metrics.
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a Master's degree or above in engineering, management, or technology.
  • Systems controls design or programming experience.
  • Systems trainer or training experience.
  • Proven history of delivering continuous improvement across large networks.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing MHE software configurations and identify performance gaps.
  • Develop and implement optimization strategies to improve throughput and uptime.
  • Design software-based solutions that maximize the utilization of MHE assets.
  • Create technical specifications and architecture documents for proposed solutions.
  • Lead end-to-end implementation of software optimization projects.
  • Manage system integrations between MHE controls and enterprise software.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, and validation of software changes.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and IT teams to understand business requirements.
  • Present solution proposals and ROI analyses to leadership.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between vendors, integrators, and internal teams.
  • Conduct training sessions and knowledge transfers for customer staff.
  • Provide 24/7 Tier 2/3 technical support for controls-related MHE issues.
  • Contribute to long-term technology roadmaps and capital planning for MHE investments.
  • Handle a flexible workload that may come from management or operations.
  • Travel up to 70%.
