The ideal candidate is an experienced problem solver who can work independently and effectively across functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in automotive systems, vehicle software, factory software, electrical hardware, manufacturing engineering, test engineering, reliability engineering, or advanced diagnostics
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex hardware and software systems in a production, launch, test, or service environment
  • Strong understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, ECUs, communication networks, and diagnostic concepts
  • Experience with one or more of CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, UDS, or related vehicle communication protocols
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical triage and troubleshooting for vehicle, factory software, electrical hardware, and production-impacting issues
  • Lead investigations for recurring or high-severity concerns across manufacturing and vehicle systems
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, fault-tree analysis, and controlled experimentation
  • Investigate issues across vehicle ECUs, networks, diagnostics interfaces, embedded software, and factory applications
  • Use vehicle diagnostic tools and production data to isolate failures and validate corrective actions
  • Document clear problem statements, evidence, reproduction steps, and closure criteria
  • Monitor issue trends across vehicles, stations, software versions, and production processes
  • Develop and improve diagnostic playbooks, troubleshooting procedures, and knowledge-base content
  • Support software and firmware integration activities by evaluating changes and confirming production readiness
  • Mentor engineers and technicians in advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave. Perks can include 24/7 mental-health coaching and therapy, Hinge Health for Anthem enrollees, tuition assistance and professional development, plus on-site food and a wide range of employee discounts on items like computers, mobile phones, home loans, and pet care.
