Job description
The Staff Software Engineer for Pixel System Debug Architecture at Google will lead the development of end-to-end debug architecture and system observability for next-generation devices. This role involves collaborating with various teams, including Silicon, Hardware, Firmware, and Cloud, to ensure robust debugging capabilities are integrated from the start. The engineer will focus on creating resilient reboot mechanisms and high-fidelity trace infrastructure while maintaining strict data governance policies. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership in a complex, matrixed environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 5 years of experience with software debugging and troubleshooting.
- 5 years of experience with software development in C, C++, or Rust.
- 3 years of experience with embedded software design and architecture.
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the cross-functional debug and tracing strategy across all software layers.
- Design distributed tracing, crash collection, and state synchronization mechanisms.
- Define post-mortem crash dumping and clean reboot/recovery flows for failure scenarios.
- Define and enforce comprehensive PII managing policies and compliance frameworks for debug artifacts.
- Drive requirements for automated log parsers and fleet-wide observability dashboards.
