The engineer will design, analyze, and qualify mechanical and thermal systems for next-generation network hardware. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards for safety and reliability. The engineer will also drive designs into volume production while focusing on cost-effectiveness and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems experience.
  • Experience in 3D CAD.
  • 2+ years of experience working with ODM/JDM/CM suppliers in a product development environment.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems in critical Data Center operations.
  • Experience with high-power electronics cooling using air and liquid cooling.
  • Expertise in debugging and troubleshooting mechanical and thermal issues in deployed hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and analyze thermal and mechanical requirements for network platforms and rack assemblies.
  • Conceive and develop trade studies on thermal solutions balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Create and iterate detailed 3D CAD models of mechanical and thermal designs.
  • Perform thermal simulations and mechanical analyses for all load conditions and compliance.
  • Develop test plans throughout development with variable isolation DOEs and statistical analysis.
  • Define qualification plans and identify acceptance testing methods for volume production.
  • Produce complete design packages including detailed drawings and analysis reports.
  • Drive root cause analysis on field failures and work with operations to improve quality processes.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
