Job description

The role is for a software engineer on the IVS Stream Management team at Amazon, focusing on building and operating distributed systems for live streaming. The team is responsible for managing stream sessions for millions of viewers and ensuring system health under varying loads. Engineers will work closely with product managers and applied scientists to enhance customer experiences. The position emphasizes collaboration, operational excellence, and the application of backend best practices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
  • Familiarity with live video concepts including streaming protocols, transcoding, and codecs
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications using Golang or C/C++
  • Familiarity with Live Streaming Origination, CDN integration, Caching, and Low latency Video Streaming distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction of one or more services in the Stream Management portfolio.
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and applied scientists to deliver seamless customer experiences.
  • Ensure backend systems are highly available, scalable, and secure at AWS scale.
  • Apply backend best practices including testing, performance optimization, observability, and maintainable code.
  • Collaborate with other AWS service teams to integrate shared services.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, design reviews, and on-call rotations.
  • Drive operational excellence through automation, metrics, alarms, and runbooks.
  • Lead post-incident investigations for high-severity events in our services.
