Job description
The System Development Engineer role within the AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability Organization focuses on optimizing and sustaining next-generation IP networks. This position is part of the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering team, which is responsible for managing the global AWS network infrastructure. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure efficient deployment of networking software tools and maintain high standards of network performance. The role emphasizes innovation and the development of automation solutions to enhance network operations.
Requirements
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals including networking, storage, and operating systems.
- Experience in professional software development outside of internships.
- Experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems for reliability and scaling.
- Hands-on experience in networking, storage systems, and operating systems.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, Ruby, or Java is preferred.
- Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality network and systems automation and sustaining engineering.
- Create and implement automation changes on the network.
- Lead network projects in areas such as network sustaining engineering and optimization.
- Provide critical support to mitigate large-scale networking events for AWS customers.
- Develop automation for network routing, interconnectivity, and performance issues.
- Collaborate with the Network/Infrastructure organization on engineering standards and tools.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure smooth roll-out of new designs and products.
- Maintain compliance with networking standards and policies.
- Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
- Create and review documentation regarding network issues and standard operating procedures.
