Job description

The Software Development Engineer role at AWS focuses on automating legal contract processing through AI and compilation techniques. The Contract Onboarding team aims to enhance the efficiency of billing and contract signing for AWS customers by building systems that parse and interpret Private Pricing Agreements. This position involves working with large language models and distributed event pipelines to handle significant revenue data. The engineer will be responsible for the entire software development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality and secure systems at scale.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
  • Experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, or natural language processing.
  • Experience designing, building, operating, and managing large-scale distributed systems or web services.
  • Experience building rich data-driven web applications by consuming RESTful services and APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build contract parsing and term extraction pipelines using AI/LLM techniques.
  • Own and operate distributed systems processing confidential contractual data under demanding SLAs.
  • Build event-driven architectures using AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, and DynamoDB.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and partner engineering teams to define scope and technical direction.
  • Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement.
  • Write high-quality, testable code in Java, Kotlin, Python, and TypeScript.
  • Build highly available, secure systems at Amazon scale.
  • Mentor and support the growth of other developers.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
