The Senior Research Scientist and Protein Expression & Purification Team Lead at Elanco will lead a team focused on the discovery and optimization of recombinant protein biotherapeutics for animal health. This hybrid role combines laboratory work with team leadership, overseeing the entire protein generation workflow. The position requires expertise in mammalian protein expression and purification, as well as project leadership skills. The successful candidate will contribute to critical pre-clinical studies aimed at improving animal health.

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related scientific discipline.
• A minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or a post-doctoral setting with expertise in mammalian protein expression and multi-step protein purification.
• Experience directing multi-person scientific workflows and mentoring laboratory scientists.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of laboratory scientists focused on the end-to-end protein generation workflow.
• Serve as the protein sciences subject matter expert across multiple concurrent biotherapeutic and vaccine discovery projects.
• Direct the end-to-end protein generation workflow, from expression plasmid design to multi-step purification strategies.
• Oversee a suite of in-process and lot-release analytics to ensure the delivery of high-purity protein lots.
• Identify and implement platform improvements while maintaining data integrity through electronic lab notebooks and technical reports.
