Job description

The Senior Resident Engineer at Arcadis will manage complex transit station construction, rehabilitation, and modernization projects in active operating environments. This role requires strong resident engineering experience and the ability to coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient project delivery. The engineer will oversee various aspects of transportation infrastructure projects, focusing on station buildings and utility coordination. The position emphasizes collaboration and effective communication to maintain project compliance and quality.

Requirements

  • 12 years of construction management or resident engineering experience on transportation infrastructure projects, with transit station experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional certification required: PE, CCM, PMP, or other relevant construction or project management certification.
  • Experience working in active transit station, aviation, municipal, or other complex public infrastructure environments preferred.
  • Preferred experience supporting CTA, Metra, or similar transit agency clients.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate field activities among the client, contractor, designers, third-party stakeholders, and operations staff.
  • Review and manage project documents to confirm compliance with contract requirements and client expectations.
  • Support change management by evaluating field conditions and coordinating input from the project team.
  • Work closely with project management staff to monitor scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and construction phasing.
  • Prepare clear reporting on construction progress, issues, risks, and upcoming work to support timely project decisions.
  • Maintain accurate project records and support consistent documentation and communication practices.
  • Serve as a primary field point of contact for the client and contractor while maintaining strong working relationships.

Benefits

  • Employees at Arcadis are often offered a supportive, inclusive culture with internal mobility, extensive learning and development resources, and the flexibility to choose benefits that fit their needs (varying by country). Many roles also emphasize purpose and community—through sustainability initiatives, charitable programs like Shelter, and regular social and volunteer events—so people can grow their careers while making a positive impact.
