The role is for a Software Development Engineer II on the Amazon Athena Engine Front End team, which focuses on query lifecycle management and routing queries efficiently. The team is responsible for building the next-generation engine that handles millions of queries daily. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills and a deep understanding of distributed systems. This position involves owning features end to end, from design to production deployment.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience

• Own features and services end to end, including design, build, test, and deployment.
• Route millions of queries a day across engine generations without customer impact.
• Ensure the safety of new engine builds before they handle production traffic.
• Maintain a fast and reliable submission path while the underlying engine changes.
• Learn the system deeply and identify potential problems.
• Drive designs independently as you grow in the role.
