This role focuses on creating engineering infrastructure and workflows that empower designers to build high-quality prototypes. The engineer will work closely with design teams and engineering partners to ensure effective collaboration and maintainable code. This position offers significant autonomy to shape technical standards and enhance the integration of design and engineering.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong proficiency in iOS/macOS development using Swift, SwiftUI, and UIKit.
- Strong proficiency with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and developer infrastructure such as TestFlight and code signing.
- Experience architecting codebases for collaboration, including establishing patterns and documentation.
- Experience integrating with APIs, backend services, and data pipelines.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI-assisted development tools and their impact on engineering workflows.
- Excellent communication skills to translate between design and engineering contexts.
- Experience working closely with design teams and an appreciation for design craft and visual quality.
- Familiarity with machine learning pipelines, personalization systems, or recommendation engines.
- Experience setting up and managing internal tools or prototype distribution systems.
- Previous experience mentoring non-engineers in technical workflows.
- Experience in environments where design and engineering boundaries are intentionally blurred.
- Familiarity with spec-driven development practices.
- A deep understanding of the Apple design aesthetic and Human Interface Guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Architect and structure code projects to enable effective designer contributions.
- Manage version control and collaboration workflows for prototypes.
- Distribute prototypes through TestFlight and internal platforms.
- Ensure maintainability and organization of built prototypes.
- Elevate working prototypes from proof-of-concept to structured, distributable artifacts.
- Facilitate handover and align on technical standards with engineering teams.
- Contribute directly to production repositories when necessary.
- Evaluate new tools in AI-assisted development to maintain technical edge.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
