The AWS CloudWatch OpenTelemetry team is seeking engineers to build the next generation of cloud observability. This small, early-stage team in Seattle focuses on developing distributed query execution and long-term metrics storage systems for Amazon CloudWatch. Engineers will have a significant impact on foundational architecture decisions and will work closely with senior engineers. The role emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and a commitment to building reliable and scalable software solutions.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Experience with server, storage, networking, or large-scale distributed systems
• Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant software solutions in production
• Familiarity with time-series data, metrics systems, or the Prometheus and OpenTelemetry ecosystems
• Experience with S3-based storage, stream processing, or columnar storage formats such as Parquet
• Familiarity with PromQL or other query languages for time-series data
• Experience with query planning, storage compaction, or performance optimization at scale

• Design, implement, and test new features across distributed query and long-term metrics storage systems using Rust and Java
• Operate and maintain a globally available 24x7 service for monitoring and analyzing metrics in real time
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and peers to understand requirements and influence the roadmap
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle including design, code reviews, testing, deployment, and documentation
• Evaluate new tools and approaches to keep systems and practices current and make recommendations for adoption
