Job description

The Geotechnical Engineering Intern position at Jacobs is designed for students currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering major. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside professional engineers and designers, gaining hands-on experience in project coordination and data collection. Interns will be involved in both office-based and field-based assignments, contributing to real-life challenges in geotechnical engineering. The position aims to foster a culture of continuous learning and inclusion while empowering interns to bring fresh ideas to the team.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering major at an accredited university and be at least a rising Junior.
  • Applicants should have completed at least one course in geotechnical engineering or demonstrate a strong interest in the field.
  • Candidates pursuing Master’s degree programs in geotechnical engineering are also encouraged to apply.
  • Working knowledge of soil mechanics theory and laboratory testing techniques is required.
  • Candidate must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Geotechnical Group staff on critical projects.
  • Perform inspections of exploratory and construction-related activities, specifically subsurface investigations and laboratory testing programs.
  • Take field notes and draft construction plans.
  • Assist in providing construction phase services such as as-built drawing and RFI review.
  • Perform calculations and assist in organizing reports and packaging submissions.
