The Principal Engineer will join Confluent's Traffic team, focusing on building and managing the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. This role emphasizes large-scale distributed systems, particularly in network data plane performance and cost optimizations. The ideal candidate will lead a team of engineers and drive technical initiatives that significantly impact the business. • 12+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure/cloud networking experience
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
• Experience driving vision and technical roadmap as an architect in a large-sized platform or infrastructure team
• Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or other statically typed languages
• Experience with public clouds such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

• Build the software underpinning the mission-critical Confluent Cloud network data plane platform
• Architect, design, develop, and operationalize high performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient systems
• Independently drive architecture, roadmap, and execution of software projects
• Engage with product and cloud providers to innovate and solve business problems
• Troubleshoot issues and improve operations for a complex technical stack across multiple clouds
