The Director of Engineering for Sovereign Environments at Google will lead the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, focusing on building and maintaining large-scale, fault-tolerant systems. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and strategic vision to drive the transformation of internal operational processes and tools. The team is responsible for ensuring reliability and uptime of Google's services while fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity and problem-solving. The position emphasizes automation and self-service solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 15 years of experience with system design, algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design or with Unix/Linux systems.
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes/GKE) operating outside of public cloud data centers.

• Drive the transformation of Google’s internal operational processes, tools, and practices to enable partners to operate the cloud autonomously.
• Ensure that SRE principles are built directly into the shipped software for reliable external operation.
• Redesign incident response, monitoring, and debugging paradigms for environments without ambient access.
• Oversee support tiers, including extended workforce acting as Level 3 support.
• Manage reliability for a globally distributed fleet, including lifecycle operations.
