Job description
Rivian is seeking a visionary software engineer to join the Manufacturing Automation Controls Platform Development team. This role focuses on redefining manufacturing engineering automation standards and developing company-wide software infrastructure. The engineer will leverage a hybrid skill set that combines industrial controls knowledge with modern software practices. The position is based in Atlanta, GA, and involves collaboration with various teams to enhance automation tools.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software and automation controls engineering experience in high-volume manufacturing or an equivalent advanced technical field.
- Strong proficiency in modern software development using languages such as Python, Go, C#, or C++ for tool building.
- Advanced proficiency with either Rockwell or Beckhoff PLCs, including mastery of traditional IEC 61131-3 languages.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Inductive Automation Ignition, particularly in the Ignition Perspective module.
- Solid foundation in source control, software design patterns, build pipelines, and CI/CD tools.
- Practical experience designing and integrating industrial equipment with relational databases.
- BS, MS, or equivalent in Automation Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, OPC UA, and MQTT.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain enterprise controls standards and reusable PLC libraries.
- Design and implement software tools to streamline the engineering lifecycle.
- Establish automated continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for controls codebase testing.
- Develop higher-level user applications that allow end-user engineers to configure automation projects.
- Create modular, high-performance HMI templates and SCADA architectures using Inductive Automation Ignition.
- Architect schema designs and data interfaces linking PLCs and edge platforms with relational databases.
- Collaborate with manufacturing line deployment teams and enterprise IT groups to align standards and improve efficiency.
