The Data Processing team at Amazon's Frontier AI organization is seeking a Software Development Engineer to lead the design and development of large-scale data pre-processing systems. This role focuses on creating scalable data infrastructure to support high-quality datasets for AI and machine learning applications. The engineer will work at the intersection of distributed systems, data engineering, and machine learning to tackle complex data challenges. The position offers an opportunity to influence technical decisions and mentor junior engineers.

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
• 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems
• Experience as a mentor or tech lead in an engineering team
• 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, including coding standards and operations
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

• Design and build scalable data pre-processing pipelines for petabyte-scale datasets
• Develop data quality frameworks including deduplication and content classification
• Optimize pipeline performance for throughput, latency, and cost-efficiency
• Define and implement data transformation logic such as tokenization and normalization
• Collaborate with scientists to understand data requirements and provide engineering solutions
• Own end-to-end system design from architecture through deployment and monitoring
• Drive technical decisions and influence the team's roadmap through design documents and code reviews
• Establish best practices for data lineage, versioning, and auditability of training data
• Mentor junior engineers and raise the technical bar across the team
