This role is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, focusing on the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. The team, Shield, is dedicated to protecting AWS infrastructure and customers from sophisticated internet attacks. You will work on high-stakes engineering challenges that involve large-scale distributed systems and evolving threat landscapes. The position emphasizes collaboration with diverse teams to ensure safety, security, and operational excellence.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience

• Design, build, and operate internet-scale distributed systems that protect AWS infrastructure
• Process and defend traffic representing a substantial portion of global internet activity
• Architect solutions for traffic volumes and attack patterns that challenge distributed systems design
• Develop creative mitigations for evolving threats in a fast-moving landscape
• Balance competing engineering priorities while ensuring customer traffic flows safely and reliably
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high standards of safety and security
• Contribute to operational excellence through code reviews and architecture discussions
• Drive continuous improvement of detection and defense capabilities
