The Staff Backend Product Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, building, and owning the systems and APIs that enhance Slackbot's product experience. This position is part of the Slackbot team, which focuses on making Slack the primary interface for AI-powered work. The engineer will ensure systems are scalable and performant while prioritizing user needs. Collaboration with product managers and designers is essential to drive innovation and improve user experience.

• 10+ years of professional experience building and shipping web applications with a focus on backend development.
• Proven experience with functional or imperative programming languages such as PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, Go, or C.
• Expertise in PHP/Hack, Java, MySQL, and Linux is a strong plus.
• Experience building search infrastructure, large-scale APIs, or AI-powered systems is highly desirable.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers to conceptualize and build new features for Slackbot.
• Contribute to systems that enhance Slackbot's intelligence in finding and surfacing information.
• Actively own team features or core systems, defining their long-term health and roadmap.
• Assist support and operations teams in resolving complex production issues.
• Mentor other engineers and drive improvements in engineering standards and processes.
