The Microsoft AI Frameworks team develops software and engineering tools to enable AI models to run efficiently at cloud scale. This role is for a Senior or Principal Software Engineer who will work on AI performance, benchmarking, and developer tooling. Candidates will solve complex systems problems and collaborate with various teams to enhance model onboarding and performance. The position emphasizes hands-on contributions and leadership in technical direction.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C++ or Python.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

• Design, implement, test, and operate production-quality components across AI frameworks and performance tooling.
• Benchmark, profile, debug, and optimize large language model training and inference workloads.
• Build automation and observability to detect regressions and improve reproducibility.
• Drive scoped projects from problem definition through deployment.
• Partner with researchers and model teams to diagnose cross-stack issues.
• Define technical vision and architecture for AI framework capabilities.
• Lead investigations spanning models, frameworks, and systems.
• Establish common measurement and automation mechanisms.
• Drive improvements in model onboarding velocity and runtime performance.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and mentor other engineers.
