The Principal Software Engineer will play a crucial role at the intersection of cybersecurity and generative AI within the Artificial Generative Intelligence Security (AeGIS) team. This position involves leading the design and implementation of shared platform capabilities, focusing on AI observability, detection, and investigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong curiosity about AI systems and a commitment to enhancing their safety and robustness. The role requires collaboration with various teams and a dedication to protecting users across Microsoft's AI platforms.

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience.
• Significant ownership of distributed data, platform, or security products with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
• 2+ years of experience working on modern AI systems.
• 2+ years of experience in big data engineering.
• Demonstrated success designing and delivering complex production systems.
• Proven coding, system design, written communication, and technical leadership skills.
• Hands-on experience with alerting, triage, investigation, threat hunting, or incident response.
• Experience leading security and privacy architecture reviews.
• Deep understanding of agentic systems and AI system failure modes.
• Experience with cloud-native distributed platforms and infrastructure as code.

• Lead the design and implementation of shared platform capabilities.

• Design detection infrastructure for attack signatures and behavioral anomaly detection.
• Build and operate large-scale distributed data processing systems.
• Drive technical partner conversations and security and privacy architecture reviews.
