The Staff Software Engineer in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) focuses on building and maintaining large-scale, fault-tolerant systems for Google Cloud. This role combines software and systems engineering to ensure reliability and performance of services. The SRE team is responsible for optimizing existing systems and automating processes to improve efficiency. Engineers in this position will tackle complex challenges related to scaling architecture and adapting operational models to meet business needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience leading projects.
• 3 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.

• Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services from inception and design to deployment, operation, and refinement.
• Support services before they go live through system design consulting, developing software platforms, and capacity planning.
• Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.
• Scale systems sustainably through automation and push for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
• Practice sustainable incident response and conduct blameless postmortems.
