The role is for a software engineer on the Ads Platform Foundations team at Netflix, focusing on building core platforms and frameworks for the Ads organization. The team aims to enhance development speed and consistency through scalable UI infrastructure and foundational workflows. The position involves evaluating authorization systems, designing policy models, and integrating authorization checks into services. Candidates will contribute to the technical backbone that ensures reliability and velocity across Ads.

• 5–8+ years of backend/software engineering experience shipping production systems.
• Hands-on experience working on or building an authorization system with solid RBAC fundamentals.
• Strong conceptual grounding in authorization fundamentals, including tradeoffs between RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC approaches.
• Some exposure to evaluating or integrating a policy engine/framework or equivalent in-house experience.
• Strong systems design skills, particularly in low-latency decision services.

• Co-drive the build vs. buy evaluation for centralized authorization and contribute to vendor bake-offs.
• Help design the policy model, including roles, permissions, and role hierarchies.
• Partner on the decision engine architecture to ensure low-latency authorization checks.
• Work with platform, security, and IAM teams to integrate authorization checks into services.
• Build reference implementations, SDKs, and middleware for centralized model adoption.
